Kalin is an ARC DECRA Fellow at Monash University. Before his current role, he was a Research Associate and Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the University of Southern California. He received an MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and a PhD degree in Computer Science from KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden). During his PhD studies, he was a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Southern California's Institute for Creative Technologies (Los Angeles, USA) and at the National Institute of Informatics's Computer Vision and Discrete Geometry Group (Tokyo, Japan). Kalin works on Affective Computing - a subfield of Artificial Intelligence focusing on the study and development of systems that can recognise, interpret, process, and simulate human affect. In particular, Kalin is interested in the perception and production of human communicative behaviour in face-to-face interactions for the development of autonomous social systems capable to perceive and act in unstructured social environments considering the affective and motivational states of the people interacting with them.
