Dr. Miao Cheng is a specially appointed assistant professor at Tohoku University. Her research focuses on nonverbal communication social neuroscience. She completed her Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Hong Kong, where she studied how people synchronize their behavior and brain activity during interpersonal coordination. Following her post-doctoral work at NTT Communication Science Laboratories, Dr. Cheng joined Tohoku University, working in the Interdisciplinary ICT Research Center for Cyber and Real Spaces. Her current work focuses on nonverbal communication, with a special interest in how social cues are expressed through body movement and eye movement. She is also interested in the nuances of nonverbal communication across cultural and gender contexts, aiming to uncover how such variations influence digital and real-world interactions.
