

Shiro Kumano

Dr. Shiro Kumano received his Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2009. He served as an Honorary Research Associate at University College London, U.K., from 2016 to 2017, and is currently a Senior Research Scientist at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Communication Science Laboratories, NTT Corporation, Japan, as well as a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. His research interests span affective computing, computer vision, cognitive science, and mathematical psychology. Dr. Kumano has contributed significantly to the research community, serving as General Co-Chair of ACII 2021 and 2022, Blue Sky Paper Chair for ICMI 2024, Sponsorship Co-Chair for ACII 2019 and 2024, and Web Co-Chair for MVA 2015, Senior Program Committee Member for ACII (2017, 2019), ICMI (2018, 2020, 2022-24), and AAAI (2022), among other roles. He has also been an Associate Editor of IEEE TAFFC since 2024 and an Executive Board Member of the Association for the Advancement of Affective Computing (AAAC) since 2024 Dr. Kumano is a member of IEEE, AAAC and other Japanese research societies.
